This rare engraved print depicts the Niagara Falls during winter and was issued in the March 5, 1881 edition of Harper's Weekly. The sheet includes several different views showing the world's most famous falls frozen in place turning the Niagara Falls into a beautiful frozen wonderland. The largest view in the center of the sheet is enclosed within a circle. Viewed from under the Canadian Falls, we can see magnificent stalactites of ice with people pointing and watching in awe. Four other views surrounding the center circle feature a grotto, Ice cone, Cave of the Winds, Great King and his court and a view on Luna Island. Drawn by W. H. Gibson. In good condition. Fragile paper. Minor wear and rips along edges, not affecting image. Top left corner of margin missing.Harper's Weekly was a New York-based illustrated political magazine published from 1857 until 1916. The magazine featured foreign and domestic news, fiction, essays on many subjects, and humor. Its most well-known contributor was Thomas Nast, who made his career doing political cartoons for the publication.

A 9-inch by 13-inch page depicting four photographs from The National Shooting tournament at Sea Girt, New Jersey, no date but early 20th century. Source unknown but the photographs are from "Harper's Weekly" magazine. Scenes include a general view of the encampment, a target-pit, the canteen, and a view of the firing-line. Very Good. $45.00.

[HARPER'S WEEKLY]. LONG BRANCH, 1874: A DAY AT THE SUMMER CAPITAL. A 10-inch by 16-inch engraving in the September 5, 1874 issue of "Harper's Weekly." The drawing, entitled "Sketches at Long Branch," depicts eleven small sketches of a man's activities during "A Day At The Summer Capital," all which have small notes of what time of day the activities take place, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Drawn by F. The page depicts four scenes around the Sandy Hook/Sea Bright (then called Nauvoo) area: "Fisherman's Shanty In The Horse Shoe," "Shove Her Up (bringing a boat ashore)," "A Street In Nauvoo," and "Along The Beach At Nauvoo." An original full-page from the November 19, 1881 issue of Harper's Weekly, with the lower half of the page depicting a hand-colored engraving of the America Cup race off Sandy Hook. The engraving is titled "The Race For the America Cup- Coming Up From Sandy Hook- Drawn by J.O. Davidson." The scene shows four boats: The Atalanta, The Tidal Wave, The Mischief, and The Gracie vying for the cup off Sany Hook. The upper portion of the page shows four recently elected governors from various states. $50.00.

This is a visual historical record of the first Japanese Embassy to America, 1860. . THE CAPTION READS: "THE RECEPTION OF THE JAPANESE EMBASSY BY PRESIDENT BUCHANAN IN THE EAST ROOM OF TEH WHITE HOUSE, WASHINGTON." . Then additional caption, identifying important people, states: "THE BEARER OF THE TREATY, CAPT. LEE, INTERPRETER AND [Japanese] AMBASSADORS, CAPT. PORTER, CAPT. PORTMAN, CAPT. DUPONT, PRESIDENT BUCHANAN, GEN. SCOTT, SECRETARY CASS." * This is a lovely full-size woodblock engraved illustration. It shows a large view of the most historic and august meeting of the Japanese Ambassadors with President Buchanan as he greets the members of Japanese Embassy. There are three main Japanese Ambassadors, who bow in respect to President Buchanan. The first two are Sim'mi No-Kami who is the First Ambassador, also Mooragaki Awajsi No-Kami and one other. Each of the Japanese wear their formal Hakama robes and have their double-Samurai swords [Katana]. . This introduction ceremony was performed before a large audience of American onlookers. The president, vice president and members of his cabinet and military consultants stand before the Japanese embassy in formal attire.
