Erstausgabe
Hardcover first edition - First printing. Although very little is known of Edythe Mae Gordon, she appeared briefly as a poet and short story writer in the twenties and thirties and was particularly active, through her connection to the Saturday Evening Quill Club, a center of black intellectual and cultural life in the Boston of the late twenties, at the same time as the Harlem Renaissance. This volume includes three stories and thirteen poems, most originally published in the Saturday Evening Quill, and the first publication of her Boston University M.A. thesis, "The Status of the Negro Woman in the United States from 1619-1865." Introduction by Lorraine Elena Roses. A title in the African-American Women Writers 1910-1940 series, under the editorship of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Portrait at the first story. xxx, 99 pp. Fine in fine dust jacket.
