First Flint edition, number 463 of 500 copies printed on handmade paper There were also 12 copies printed on vellum. Lancelyn Green stated that "no one has caught the magic and the music and the wonder of the old Greek legends as Kingsley did" (p. 132), and Kingsley's collection is perfectly complemented in this edition by Flint's illustrations. Gardner notes that reprints of this title in the 1920s only included nine of Russell Flint's original 12 colour plates. The 15 stories feature Perseus, Theseus, and the Argonauts. Keith S. Gardner, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Unsigned Limited Edition Works of Sir William Russell Flint, 1994, p. 116; Roger Lancelyn Green, Tellers of Tales, 1946; Ransom, p. 395. Quarto. Original full limp vellum, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, original green cotton ties, top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges untrimmed, cream silk bookmarker. Later slipcase. Colour frontispiece and 11 coloured plates, with captioned tissue guards, all by Russell Flint. Minor colour variance to vellum, as usual; a fine copy.
