Covers West Coast theatre and music. 39.5 x 29 cm. **1) Christmas 1900: 56 pp. Edythe Chapman on cover. Features on Edwin Booth, Joe Jefferson, Lola Montez, and many others. Rich advertising. **2) Midsummer 1904: 36 pp. Art Nouveau cover by Prentice in purple and metallic gold, with photo of Lule Warrenton. Picture and story on William Desmond. Christmas 1900 notes on its cover, "â The Dramatic Review' absorbed â The S.F. Music and Drama' Dec. 8th", but three OCLC records give no dates more precise than "1880s." It seems unlikely that there is a connection with The Dramatic Review of 1868-1869. Both issues near fine. Kunst / Grafik / Poster
Vintage British quad poster for the 1969 British film. Based on Charles Chilton's 1961 radio play, "The Long Long Trail." Richard Attenborough's debut film gives a highly satirical musical retelling of the First World War. Highlighting the disconnect between those calling the shots and the soldiers carrying out the orders, Attenborough chose to depict all the military and political leaders in a lavish pierhead pavilion, while the soldiers are crammed into grizzly trenches. Highly stylized, the film's most poignant and notorious scene depicts a field filled with innumerable white crosses, symbolizing the immense death toll of WWI. Shot on location in England. 30 x 40 inches, folded. Two light manuscript pencil annotations to the verso, else Near Fine.
