Side-Stapled Wraps. Zustand: Fine. Purchase College, State University of New York - early 1970s brainchild of Nelson Rockefeller, designed as the perfect "menage a trois" of arts, liberal arts, and sciences - hip, intense, an isolated oasis, an honors/pass/no-credit grading system. Then came the budget cuts and the insidious letter-grade quantification of achievement, along with Albany's increasingly conservative answers to the question: "What is higher education?" The campus has always been fertile soil for poetry, blossoming as "art", self-therapy, protest, confession, or escapism. Here is another annual selection of works, mostly by students but with an occasional contribution from professors and staff (also including Frank Kazynski, R.P.Kracik, Richard Lann, Debrah Levy, Elizabeth Logun, Janet Magnussen-Morgan, Jody O'Neil, Inez Risseew, Lee Schlesinger, Robin Schoen, Susan Schwartz, Elizabeth L. Shaw, Michele Madigan Somerville, Paul Spillenger, Carole Stewart, Eric Stull, and Synn), plus work by "outsiders" Mitchel Cohen, Jill Hoffman, Evelyn Horowitz, David Lehman, Jim McInerny, George Mosby Jr., Louis Phillips, and Ruth Lisa Schechter. Professor Lee Schlesinger served as Faculty Advisor for this issue. 51+ pages. CONDITION: a bright, tight, unmarked, uncreased copy with negligible shelf-wear - now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with backing board.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This book is for fathers. We've got a tough assignment and most of us don't know how to do it right. For a long time, I skirted the fringes of my children's lives, but I never established a core-deep relationship with each of them. I was a tourist in my own life. And I hated it. If you yearn for a deeper relationship with your children, then this book is for you. I'll show you how to crack the code, so you can get into the hearts of your kids and stay there.

Erstausgabe
Trade paperback. Zustand: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xi, [1], 267, [1] pages. Notes. Figures. Tables. Illustrations. Selected Bibliography. Cover has small chips on spine edges and some tape residue. This book was the winner of the Air Force Historical Foundation's 1987 Colonel James Cannell Memorial Award. The primary objective of this study is to identify those principles for the lawful use of military force. The text includes figures on International Terrorist Accidents, 1980-84, and Casualties from International Terrorist Attacks, 1981-85. There are also tables on International Terrorist Incidents Involving DOD Personnel, 1980-84, Alternative Legal Approaches Compared, Conditions Under Which States Fail to Exercise Due Diligence, and Intervention and Interposition Compared. Topics covered include Terrorism, Self-defense (International law), Military Law, Collective Use of Force: Actions States Can Take Together, Other Legal Arguments to Justify Use of Force. This study should help us as a nation deal with being uncertain as to how best to deal with the threat posed by terrorism. We do not understand international terrorism in an international law context. We need to improve our intellect and sharpen our insight into such issues as: What is the legal responsibility of one state to another and to the international community concerning terrorism? How should terrorism be approached? Should it be considered a criminal activity in a law enforcement context or should it be viewed as a combatant activity in an armed conflict context? What legal reasoning exists to support the use of military force against international terrorists as well as their state sponsors and supporters? This study, written for both the lawyer and the lay person, explores these and other legal issues. For the benefit of the general reader, the text has been written with minimum reliance upon legal jargon. The scholar should refer to the endnotes for a more exhaustive legal treatment of concepts and issues.

Endpapers of book by Daniel Buren. "Since public museums came into being in the late 18th century, artists have looked upon them with a mixture of reverence, complicity, suspicion, and disdain. In The Museum as Muse, artists of many persuasions speak their minds about museums, their functions and spaces, their practices and politics, and their relationship to the art they contain. More than 60 artists are represented by a wide range of works: photographs of museum patrons by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Elliot Erwitt; 'personal museums' and 'cabinets of curiosities' by Charles Wilson Peale, Marcel Duchamp, and Claes Oldenburg; fantasies of the destruction or transformation of museums by Hubert Robert, Ed Ruscha, and Christo and more, including works created especially for this project by contemporary artists, and an anthology of statements and writings by artists about museums. This volume was published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York." -- publisher's statement. Very Good. Light wear to dust-jacket including a 6 mm. tear to spine edge and bumping of upper edge of recto. Light yellowing of page edges. Contents otherwise clean and unmarked.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - I thank Maj Gen Robert W. Norris, The Judge Advocate General, Headquarters United States Air Force, for the opportunity to research the subject of international law within the context of legitimating military force as an option in response to international terrorism. The study of the capacity of international law to meet the challenge of terrorism has been inadequate. In this study, I explore the full capacity of international law in this regard. I would be remiss if I did not also express my appreciation to General Norris for his unwavering support and encouragement and for the valuable assistance provided to me by his staff. In particular, I thank Col Nolan Sklute, executive to The Judge Advocate General, and Col Robert Hitt, chief, International Law Division, Headquarters United States Air Force. I am grateful to several of Colonel Hitt's staff: Will Carroll, Lt Col Philip Meek, Lt Col Dennis Yoder, and Maj Thomas Tudor. This study would not have been possible without the support of the Air University Center for Aerospace Doctrine, Research, and Education (AUCADRE). My thanks to Dr Lawrence Grinter, who as my research adviser, provided immeasurable and professional guidance and assistance. I am indebted also to Tom Lobenstein who served as my editor. Special thanks are due Dr Stephen Sloan, former senior research fellow, AUCADRE; Dr James Winkates, Air War College; Col Richard Porter, US Department of State, Office of Counter-terrorism; Lt Col Joe Ryan and the members of seminar five of the Air War College class of 1987; and Jane Gibish, bibliographer, Air University Library. Most of all, I thank my wife, Joan, and my daughter, Karen, for reasons only they know.
