Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. None (illustrator). First edition. A very smart first edition of H. C. McNeile"s early work, "Sergeant Michael Cassidy, R.E." A very smart first edition of "Sergeant Michael Cassidy, R.E." One of the early works from British soldier and author Herman Cyril McNeile, who often wrote under the pseudonym "Sapper". Drawing on his experiences in the trenches during the First World War, McNeile began writing short stories that would be published in the Daily Mail under the pen name "Sapper", as serving officers in the British Army were not permitted to publish under their own names. His stories were either about the war directly, or contain people whose lives have been shaped by it. McNeile is perhaps best known for his popular novel "Bulldog Drummond" (1920). Undated, dated using Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. In the original publisher"s decorative cloth binding. Externally, smart. Some light edgewear to the extremities. Light markings to the boards and very light rubbing to the spine. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good. book.

Cloth. Zustand: Near Fine. None (illustrator). An excellent copy of the eighth novel from H. C. McNeile's Bulldog Drummond series, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. The ninth edition. First published in 1933. Written by Herman Cyril McNeile, a British soldier and author who often drew on his personal experiences in the trenches during the First World War. McNeile is most remembered for his Bulldog Drummond series, writing this collection under the pseudonym Sapper. This work features Hugh 'Bulldog' Drummond, a veteran from the First World War who tires of his mundane life and becomes an adventure-seeking detective. The character has since appeared in novels, short stories, in plays, films, on television and in graphic novels. This particular story surrounds the murder of a Secret Service officer, with Bulldog Drummond teaming up with occasional-detective Ronald Standish to get to the bottom of it. This novel was adapted into a 1947 film starring Ron Randell and Gloria Henry, entitled 'Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back'. In the publisher's original red cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to joints and extremities. Dust wrapper is also very smart, with light edge wear and chips to the head and tail of the spine. Light marking and rubbing to wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and a little age toned, as expected with this type of paper. Near Fine. book.
