In rather cleaner condition than usually seen.Each plate is preceded by a descriptive leaf.A descriptive work on the 1891 Mino-Owari earthquake, the largest inland earthquake ever in Japan.The earthquake hit the provinces Mino and Owari in the Nobi Plain on the 28th October 1891, and resulted in high fatalities and injuries. At this time Japan was undergoing an Industrial Revolution, becoming a more industrial nation with advancing science, the earthquake causing a lot of industrial damage.This is an important and early work on the natural disaster.By John Milne and William K. Burton.Illustrated by Ogawa Kawumasa.Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library.Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper, 'To Robert Prendergast, from his affectionate friend, G. Adel, May 1894'. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, with some cockling to to the front board. Some marks and small tide marks to the boards and spine. Spine is faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Hinges are a little strained. Label to the front paste down. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just a few light spots. Faint tide mark to the tail of the plates. Good. book.
