Copertina rigida. Zustand: discrete. Testo latino. Cm.18,3x11,5. Pg.VIII, 280. Legatura in piena pergamena rigida con titoli manoscritti al dorso. Ritratto dell'Autore inciso in ovale all'antiporta. Marca tipografica, cartigli e capilettera incisi. Il volume è interessato da piccolissime tarlature d'epoca, in parte restaurate, ubicate principalmente ai margini, salvo minimi forellini che non inficiano la fruibilità del testo. Importante e stimata opera del medico e botanico olandese Herman Boerhaave (Voorhout, 1668 ? 1738), unanimemente considerato il fondatore del moderno sistema ospedaliero. Laureatosi in filosofia a Leida, si dedicò quindi alle discipline mediche sotto le cure di Sydenham, assumendo la cattedra di botanica, sempre a Leida, nel 1709, e in seguito quella di medicina pratica. Fu uno dei grandi medici del suo tempo, cui si rivolsero, tra gli altri, Pietro il Grande, Linneo e Voltaire. Il presente trattato sulle malattie veneree fu pubblicato la prima volta nel 1728, ed affronta per la prima volta in maniera sistematica la cura della sifilide, che egli ritiene essere giunta in Europa a seguito della spedizione di Colombo. > Lindeboom, "Bibliographia Boerhaaviana", 385. The lectures Boerhaave gave in 1701 were called "Institutiones Medicae" and this book is based on those lectures. Index indicates the book is divided into five sections: physiology, pathology, semeiotica, hygiene, and therapeutics. Dedicated to Abraham Drolenvaux, a city alderman whose daughter Boerhaave married in 1710. A later Dutch translation appeared in 1741 in Amsterdam, titled "Geneeskundige onderwizjingen." G&M 581 (first ed. 1708). One of Boerhaave's best works, especially the section on physiology with important observations upon digestion. "Editio altera prima longe auctior" (second Latin edition published in Holland, the first having been published 1708).
