The Oxford archaeologist Beazley, created the basis for an internationally recognized database for around 20,000 of the then 40,000 red and black-figure Greek and Etruscan vases known worldwide. He analyzed them according to the origin of mythological symbolism and representation, according to collection, publications and publication, and possibly according to artist.
