Cloth. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Various (illustrator). First edition. A fascinating first edition copy of Kenneth R. Andrews's account of 'The Last Voyage of Drake and Hawkins'. Written by the notable historian of privateering and piracy Kenneth R. Andrews, who was was best known for his works that re-categorised Sir Francis Drake as a great corsair rather than a great admiral. This text provides an account of the expedition of royal and private ships which left Plymouth in 1595 under the command of Drake and Hawkins with the aim of capturing the city of Panama. The expedition ended in total failure, with both leaders dying and attempts to capture Grand Canary, Puerto Rico and Panama were all repulsed. Featuring a loosely inserted letter to 'Richard Ollard Esq.' from 'T.L.S.', The Times Literary Supplement, asking the notable English historian and biographer for a review of this text. Also featuring a loosely inserted letter from 'The Syndics of the Press' (from The Cambridge University Press) also requesting a review. In the original unclipped dustwrapper.
