My many current listings of railroad related books are starting to draw some attention and some sales, finally, so how about a few more. Please find another, staying with the the…me of steam: Steam Power of the New York Central System Volume I Modern Power 1915-1955, by Alvin F. Staufer. This large hard cover book (8 ¾ x 11 ¼ inches, 224 pages) was published by the Author, dated 1961 and the First Edition/First Printing (so stated). The book is bound in black cloth with white decorations and titles and protected by a now battered pictorial dust jacket. This book opens with a color frontispiece of Thundering Niagara, apparently done by the Author. The book is lavishly illustrated with lots of very carefully taken b&w photos, mostly of locomotives, which appear on virtually every page, often several to a page. Laid-in are three separate sheets with more information on the steam locomotives used by the New York Central. Condition: This book is in very good condition. As mentioned, however, the same cannot be said for the dust jacket which shows lots of edge wear, with small chips and tears and also, some spots of finish removed by labels being torn off. The dust jacket, nevertheless, is still almost whole and doing its job. The hard covers are clean with a small area of white residue where a poorly repaired dust jacket stuck to the covers. Inside, a former owner has left his inked name and date on the front endpaper but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
