Urbain Le Verrier (1811-1877) French astronomer and mathematician, specializing in celestial mechanics, founder of modern French meteorology, is best known for predicting the existence and position of Neptune using only mathematics. He was elected to the Academy of Sciences for his work on the stability of the solar system.

They read: 'Teddy Gwenn | [ ditto ] Michael | Lawrence | Sevier | Tommy Shale | Jan Hurst. | Patersen Story'. From the papers of Herman Finck (1872-1939), with whom Jan Hurst was connected. According to one authority: 'In 1929 [Hurst] secured the all year round post of Musical Director to the Brighton Corporation and as such, he was in charge of their Municipal Orchestra. It is, of course, from this period that his most famous composition 'Brighton Sea Step' emerged - a work still performed in the 21st century. He remained at Brighton until April 1934, when a change of policy by the Corporation resulted in the disbandment of the orchestra and Jan Hurst's appointment terminated.'.

Molto buono (Very Good). . . . Dopo aver frequentato la scuola d'arte di Londra, Zadkine si stabilì a Parigi attorno al 1910. Lì entrò a far parte del movimento cubista (1914-1925). Successivamente sviluppò il suo stile, fortemente influenzato dall'arte africana. Partecipò alla prima guerra mondiale combattendo tra le file della Legione straniera francese tra il 1916 e il 1917. Intorno al 1920 la sua arte comincia a svolgersi più liricamente, come mezzo d'espressione di un sentimento. Intorno al 1930 è teso a cogliere l'eleganza della figura umana, preoccupato però di evitare ogni compiacimento estetizzante. Ne deriva intorno al 1940 una maggiore libertà nella contrapposizione delle masse, nella sovrapposizione dei piani, in una visione multipla sempre più dinamica e raffinata allo stesso tempo. Negli anni della guerra (trascorsi negli S. U. A. dove Z. si era rifugiato nel 1939) la sua visione si va interiorizzando. Nascono così, nell'immediato dopoguerra, il monumento commemorativo della distruzione di Rotterdam, la Prigioniera, l'Orfeo, il Poeta. Z. Nel 1951 vinse il premio per la scultura alla biennale di Venezia. Ebbe una notevole influenza sugli scultori contemporanei del secondo dopoguerra.Le sculture riprodotte risalgono al periodo compreso tra il 1912 e il 1921. Book.
