"Während des Ersten Weltkriegs malte Adams als Mitglied der Kunstgruppe des k.k. Kriegspressequartiers hauptsächlich Militärbilder; 1917 wurde ihm der Professorentitel verliehen" (DBE). Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Named after one of his ancestors, the 6th President of the United States, Adams specialized in portraiture, genre and landscape painting. His work comprised portraits of prominent members of Viennese society, including an unusual group portrait showing Dr. Ernst Wertheim performing gynecological surgery, as well as scenes from the Eastern theatre of WWI. - Small tear in upper margin; corners slightly creased. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application. …

Das undatierte kleine Bild misst ca. 29 x 33 cm ( Höhe x Breite ), der schlichte schwarze Rahmen misst ca. 34 x 38 cm. Das Bild ist offenbar eine stark verkleinerte Kopie nach dem sehr großen Original von Adams ( was im Original ca. 200 x 230 cm misst ). Das Bild ist etwas ausgeblichen, leicht berieben, der Rahmen ist bestoßen. The picture is apparently a greatly reduced copy of the very large original by Adams, which originally measures approximately 200 x 230 cm and is in private American ownership.
