Title page illustrated with black and white Art Deco image and with rubricated author and publisher, rubricated running heads throughout. Sewn booklet in lapping suede wrappers with a blind stamped cartouche ink black and gilt on the front cover that cotains the title and the name Lindsay (?). Lapping suede wrappers intact, tiny spot on front panel, cover design intact with bright gilt, a few pencil marks in the interior, one page loose, else near fine to fine with no other internal markings. In remarkable good condition given its age and fragility. Per the front matter, this was "A paper read before the Philadelphia branch of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae." Anna Robertson Brown Lindsay (1864-1948) attended Wellesley College and Oxford University. She was the first woman to graduate with a Ph.D in English from the University of Pennsylvania. She became a professor at Wellesley College. She served as a trustee of the college from 1906 to 1918. She wrote a number of books on theological topics, most of which were published in the early 1900s. She was married to Samuel McCune Lindsay, which accounts for the name "Lindsay" on the front cover.
