Much was gained, of course, by the use of smaller print, and scarcely less by the careful excision of unnecessary or unimportant words and phrases--lists of names, titles, trivialities, redundancies, and repetitions of all sorts; most of which, especially to an American reader, tended rather to burden than to assist the understanding. The latest volume of the English edition, which is chiefly responsible for the ferment across the water, is the most substantially reproduced, not so much to gratify the general desire to see the so-called "revelations" as becuase it is the most interesting.' Zustand: NEAR FINE. First thus. One of Muir's most accessible and delightful books, originally published in 1911 (over 40 years after this summer of 1869). It begins with a single brief paragraph dismissing the Great Central Valley - "in it there are only two seasons, spring and summer. This strikingly beautiful edition reproduces the 1988 limited edition by Yolla Bolly Press, illustrated with 12 wood engravings by Michael McCurdy and with a foreword and notes by Frederick Turner. Large format. xii, 162 pp plus colophon. Fine in a near fine dust jacket (as new, but with sunning to the spine and edges of the dust jacket, as is unfortunately common with this title).

Moins connu que son frère, Horace fut écrivain à ses heures perdues. Il publie ainsi des poésies en 1908 (Etampes, Maurice Dormann). Il souhaite profiter ici de la fondation de ce nouveau journal dont le premier numéro fut publié le 12 mars 1884. Scholl en était le rédacteur en chef. Le conte corse ne semble pas y avoir été publié. Peu commun. [202-2].

A history of Vedic India (c. 1500 - c. 500 BCE), being the Bronze Age and early Iron Age. / Fontane was Secretary General of the Universal Maritime Company of the Suez Canal, directed by Ferdinand de Lesseps in 1854, then secretary of the latter, he was compromised in the Panama scandal. He was arrested on December 16, 1892, and sentenced to five years in prison for fraud and breach of trust and, in the Cours d'Assises de la Seine, to two years in prison and a fine of 3,000 francs for corruption.
