Bifolium. Aged, with the gutter repaired with archival tape, and the reverse of the second leaf adhering to part of its mount. Headed 'Private' and addressed to 'Dear Sir Richard'. His telegram of 16 May reached Roberts in Kashmir, and he 'at once communicated its contents to the Foreign Secretary, but with no result, as I was sorry to find when the Gazette with the Queen's Birthday Honors appeared'. He will however have 'another opportunity of bringing your son's name to the notice of government, for in Sir George White's report on giving up the Command in Burma, Captain Temple's good services are specially alluded to'. (See the Oxford DNB: 'The outbreak in 1885 of the Third Anglo-Burmese War brought Temple once more on active service, and led in 1887 to his being placed in charge of King Thibaw's capital on Thibaw's deposition.') Es würde mir eine ganz besondere Freude sein zu hören, daß Euer Excellenz eine oder die andere Vorstellung mit ihrem Besuche ausgezeichnet hätten! Gleichzeitig wiederhole ich meinen verbindlichsten Dank für die so wirksame Unterstützung, welche Sie meinem Ersuchen, die Bluthochzeit für Prag zu gestatten, angedeihen ließen. [.]". - Der liberale Herzog Georg II. von Sachsen-Meiningen ging nicht zuletzt als Theatermäzen und Reformer in die Geschichte ein. Gemeinsam mit dem Regisseur und Intendanten des Meininger Hoftheaters Ludwig Chronegk arbeitete er die sogenannten Meininger Prinzipien aus, die Generationen von Theatermachern beeinflussen sollten. Durch zahllose Tourneen des Meininger Hoftheaters mit 81 Gastspielen in 39 Städten von 1874 bis 1890 verbreiteten sich die Reformideen des Herzogs in ganz Europa, und die "Meininger" feierten große Erfolge. - Leicht braunfleckig bzw. angestaubt. Together with his third wife, the actress and later Baroness of Heldburg, Ellen Franz (1839-1923), he laid the foundations for the early splendor of this renowned acting troupe. He was also close to musicians and painters such as Wilhelm von Kaulbach and Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld.
