Thick octavo (8vo), 472 pp. Publisher's original burgundy cloth, the front board decorated in black with a central portrait medallion of Dickens; spine lettered in gilt and decorated in black; top edge tinted. Sold by subscription only. Richly illustrated throughout. The title page specifies steel engravings, etchings, and photo-etchings after original drawings by Fred Barnard, together with wood illustrations after Felix Octavius Carr Darley, Hablot Knight Browne ("Phiz"), George Cruikshank, and other artists. Frontispiece present. An appealing single volume from Estes and Lauriat's extensively illustrated Boston Household Edition, bringing together Great Expectations with three shorter Dickens works. Of particular interest is No Thoroughfare, Dickens's final collaborative work with Wilkie Collins, originally written for the 1867 Christmas number of All the Year Round. Contents generally clean and unmarked, with light, even toning; frontispiece present. Binding remains sound and square.
