Ephemera. Zustand: Very Good. [4] pages. A prospectus for "Otargo: A Fourteen-year Monitor of Work (1974-1987) by artists and writers known to the editor, Hone Tuwhare, during that period." The work was never published. The prospectus is a sheet of card printed on both sides, which when folded forms 2 leaves or 4 pages, with page dimensions: 418 x 297mm. The prospectus includes the full text of Tuwhare's poems "With all things and with all beings we are as relative". Also with 3 illustrations, a black and white illustration "Oystercatchers, Otago Harbour" by Robin White; colour illustration "The Seduction" by Eion Stevens; and colour illustration "Private Bag, Central Otago" by Grahame Sydney. This copy of the prospectus is signed, beside their printed biographical details, by Grahame Sydney, Eion Stevens, Robin White, and Hone Tuwhare. Hone Tuwhare's signature is "Hone Anatipa Te Pona Tuwhare". "Hone Tuwhare has been planning this book for several years as a tribute to the province that has been his home since 1974 when he came to Dunedin as Robert Burns Fellow. Concerning the book's aim, Hone Tuwhare says that it will answer such questions as 'Do some writers and artists still feel the need to leave a place forever, just as Dan Davin and Frances Hodgkins did? Do writers and artists have difficulty in identifying with a place, in the same way that South Island Maori cheifs [sic] Tuhawaiki, Taiaroa and Karetai did not? Can we confine an emotional and personal sense of belonging to that of a Brasch, or Bracken?'" - page [2]. "'Otargo' is the phonetic spelling by the early visitor and sealer, John Boultbee, who had a good ear for the dialect as spoken by the South Island Maori, after the name of a Maori settlement on Otago Peninsula, conventionally spelt (in a northern dialect) ' Otagkou'." - page [2]. Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: No Dust Jacket. First Edition. Corrected page proofs for Hone Tuwhare's fourth collection of poetry, "Something Nothing". This title was published in Dunedin by the Caveman Press in 1974. Loose long leaves, dimensions: 456 x 152mm. The leaves are printed on one side only, with 2 pages printed on one side of the leaf. The leaves are held loosely within cloth boards with ties and a printed paper label on the front board: "page proofs (1974) 'SOMETHING NOTHING' / BY / HONE TUWHARE". The manuscript corrections consist of the removal of the comma from "Something, Nothing" at each occurrence, and changes to the page numbering. There are also a few handwritten notes (presumably made by Caveman Press publisher Trevor Reeves) on the first leaf. The proofs do not have the contents page or the copyright page, but there is a note that the contents page is to be made in the same style as that used in "Sapwood and Milk". The illustrations by Robin White, which appear in the final published book, are not included. There are a few stains to the first few leaves, and some rubbing and wear to the corners of some leaves. "Something Nothing" has some of Tuwhare's best poems, including "Ron Mason", written after the death of New Zealand poet R.A.K. Mason. Several poems from "Something Nothing" were used in later anthologies of Tuwhare's poems: "Selected Poems" (1980) had seven poems from "Something Nothing," along with 20 from "No Ordinary Sun", 5 from "Come Rain Hail", 5 from "Sapwood and Milk", and 2 from "Making a Fist of It". In "Year of the Dog, Poems New and Selected" (1982), 12 of the 32 poems were from "Something Nothing". In "Was Wirklicher ist als Sterben" (1985), 5 of the 33 poems were from "Something Nothing".
