Deborah Kay Mason

Deborah Kay Mason spent her career teaching children, and storytelling has always been one of her favorite ways to reach them. A lifelong Southerner, she grew up in the South, surrounded by the people, humor, family stories, and adventures that continue to find their way into her writing.

Deborah is the author of Ida Mae Hancock and the Sweetwater Sugar Bees, a humorous middle-grade series set in 1959 and filled with friendship, mischief, mystery, and a little Southern wisdom. Many of Ida Mae’s adventures were inspired by Deborah’s own childhood memories.

When she isn’t writing, Deborah enjoys spending time with her family, especially her “Grandsugars,” and drawing on a lifetime of adventures with horses, fishing, teaching, and children for the stories still waiting to be told.
