Phillip Anthony Herring is a photographer, author, and podcaster from Palmer Park in Prince George's County, Maryland.
Since 2012 he has worked under the name Phillip Anthony Portraits, moving between cinematic portraiture and honest street documentary. His camera has taken him from the rural roads outside Harare, Zimbabwe, to the streets of London, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C., including years documenting the Black Lives Matter marches. He holds a degree in Video Production with a minor in Photography from The Art Institute of Washington.
His memoir, Common Ground: A Man's Journey Through Mind, Body, and Spirit, is an honest account of growing up fatherless, numbing what he could not name, and rebuilding himself through mind, body, and spirit. His first photography collection, Chasing Light Volume One, gathers a decade of unscripted portraits, street, and protest work from four cities and three continents.
He co-hosts the Creative Habits Podcast, a conversation about the daily practices behind a creative life, and is at work on The Well Between Worlds, an Afrofuturist novel.
He lives in Maryland with his wife and son.
