Dr. Muhammad Nawaz
Associate Professor of English | Academic | Researcher | Author
Dr. Muhammad Nawaz is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, at Northern University, Nowshera. His academic career reflects a sustained engagement with English literature, South Asian literature, postcolonial studies, literary criticism, linguistics, and contemporary literary and cultural discourse.
As an academic and researcher, Dr. Nawaz has developed a particular interest in South Asian writing in English, with scholarly attention to questions of gender, patriarchy, identity, power, memory, resistance, language, and the psychological dimensions of literary experience. His research engages with writers and texts from Pakistan, India, and the wider South Asian literary tradition, bringing literary theory into dialogue with the social, cultural, and historical realities represented in literature.
Alongside his university teaching and research, Dr. Nawaz is also a writer of fiction. His creative work explores the relationship between mystery, memory, violence, place, and human psychology. His fiction frequently transforms familiar South Asian landscapes—cities, villages, roads, fields, bazaars, and forgotten buildings—into spaces where apparently ordinary lives conceal extraordinary secrets.
His current literary project, The Dead Who Came Back, is a suspense novel set principally in the world of Faisalabad and its surrounding villages. The novel combines literary prose with mystery and psychological suspense, gradually uncovering a network of secrets, witnesses, disappearances, and hidden histories. It is part of a broader literary vision in which every revelation creates another question and every apparently simple event carries a deeper significance.
Dr. Nawaz approaches literature both as a scholar and as a storyteller. His academic work seeks to interpret the structures of meaning already present in texts, while his creative writing seeks to construct new worlds in which readers must discover meaning for themselves. His writing is marked by an interest in atmosphere, philosophical reflection, layered characterization, and the mysteries embedded within ordinary human relationships.
Through teaching, research, criticism, and creative writing, Dr. Muhammad Nawaz continues to explore literature as both an intellectual discipline and a powerful means of understanding human experience.
