Himadri Chatterjee

Himadri Chatterjee is an Indian-born Australian author interested in how societies change, what they carry from their past, and why people looking at the same problem can arrive at very different answers.

Born and raised in Kashi (Varanasi), he later lived, worked and travelled across India, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Australia. Encounters with different cultures made him curious not only about their differences, but also about how often very different societies wrestle with surprisingly similar problems.

His writing ranges across culture and civilisation, socioeconomic change, public policy, history, science and technology, and geopolitics, particularly where these subjects intersect. Mandal, Merit & Mobility grew from that curiosity.

From Kashi to Australia, with many places and conversations in between, the journey has given him more questions than answers. He now calls South Australia home, while continuing to read, travel, observe and write about the questions that intrigue him, challenge him and refuse easy answers.
