In den WarenkorbFIRST EDITION, pp. 318, [1], crown 8vo, original textured oatmeal cloth, backstrip lettered in black, very faint partial browning to inner-margin of free endpapers, dustjacket with a vivid pictorial design (unsigned), backstrip panel slightly browned with a small white mark towards foot, short closed tear at head of front flap-fold, a longer one at head of upper joint-fold, lightly chipped to extremities otherwise, very good. Inscribed by the author on the half-title: 'To Colin Still, whose name so well describes his calm & depth. November, 1937, Gideon Clark'. The recipient is presumably the author of that name, who published works of critical theory relating to Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' - including with this publisher, in 1936. The dustjacket's rear panel advertises Julian Pine's controversial 'Rotten Borough'; its front panel carries a colourful montage-design encapsulating the themes of the book - wherein 'a young scientist invents a machine in which scenes from the past can be reproduced', which he uses for amatory purposes - in pursuit of a 'modern, conscienceless young woman' who has abandoned him.
