In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Published in 1919, this is the scarce first edition of this important study into Trench Fever published immediately after the First World War. This is a Unique Association Copy: and includes an original typed and signed letter by Major William Byam (W. Byam), the primary author of the book. Byam was a major in the Royal Army Medical Corps (R.A.M.C.) who led the British War Office Committee on Trench Fever. The letter is addressed directly to co-author Captain J. H. Churchill written from New End Military Hospital, dated 30th June 1919. New End Military Hospital, Hampstead, N.W.3. was a vital location in medical history. Originally a workhouse infirmary, it was requisitioned during WWI as a military hospital specifically dedicated to researching trench fever and heart conditions affecting soldiers Byam explicitly mentions distributing this "Trench Fever book" via Oxford Press and details transitioning Churchill's medical responsibilities (specifically his "blood counting method") to a successor. The letter reads "Herewith four copies of the Trench Fever book; should you require more I will try and get them out of the Oxford Press for you, but cannot promise to succeed." "I am glad to say I have at last got a successor to take on your job -- quite a keen man named Coles. I have told him about your blood counting method and said that when he found his feet, I would ask you whether you could spare time some day to come and give him a demonstration. I should think in about a week's time he should have learnt sufficient about trench fever to make a start." The book features the official bookplate of the Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine Library, University of Oxford, cleanly stamped "Withdrawn," confirming its legal deaccession and direct link back to Oxford's historic collections. CONDITON The books covers have some general edge wear rubbing, and a stamp along top page edges (pictured) internally bookplate of the Wellcome History of Medicine Library to front pastedown and a further library label and stamp to front free endpaper (pictured) the letter is tipped in to the reverse of the frontispiece and has a small Wellcome Library stamp to its reverse. Contents in good condition. An exceptional, museum-quality association copy of this landmark World War I medical text. Inscribed by Author(s). …

In den WarenkorbNo Binding. Zustand: Near Fine. German-language Allied propaganda and military government leaflet concerning the future of Germany following the defeat of Nazism, headed "CHURCHILL über Deutschlands Zukunft / ROOSEVELT über Deutschlands Zukunft", with "Proklamation Nr. 1" to verso signed in print by Dwight D. Eisenhower. From the Churchill Collection of Steve Forbes, with earlier Robert Hastings provenance. Single sheet printed on both sides, 23.8 × 15.3 cm. The leaflet combines statements by Churchill and Roosevelt concerning Germany's future with Eisenhower's proclamation establishing Allied Military Government in occupied Germany. Unlike more sensational propaganda, the text presents Allied occupation policy in political and ideological terms, distinguishing between the German people and National Socialism while outlining the destruction of Nazi militarism and post-war reconstruction. An historically important document linking Churchill, Roosevelt and Eisenhower at the moment of Germany's defeat and transition to Allied occupation. Comparable occupation proclamation material is institutionally collected but rarely encountered in commerce. Condition: printed on thin wartime paper, slightly browned and with minor creasing, edge wear, small marginal losses and very minor handling marks consistent with wartime circulation and survival. Text remains complete and legible throughout. Includes original receipt confirmation from Bertram Rota dated July 7 1986. A rare and historically resonant Allied propaganda and occupation document linking Churchill, Roosevelt and Eisenhower at the moment of Nazi Germany's collapse and the beginning of Allied military government. In near fine condition overall.…

In den WarenkorbNo Binding. Zustand: Good. German-language wartime propaganda leaflet reproducing the Anglo-American declaration issued by Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt following their Atlantic meeting of August 1941, with the printed signatures of both leaders at foot. From the Churchill Collection of Steve Forbes, with earlier Robert Hastings provenance. Single bifolium leaflet (2 pp.), measuring 19.8 × 13.8 cm, printed by letterpress. Issued under the heading "Englisch-amerikanische Deklaration", the leaflet reproduces the principles of the Atlantic Charter in German translation and opens with the instruction "Lesen und weitergeben!" ("Read and pass on!"), indicating intended wartime circulation among German-speaking readers. The text sets out the famous eight-point declaration outlining Allied war aims, including self-determination, economic cooperation, freedom from tyranny and post-war peace following the destruction of Nazi rule. Unlike more overtly sensational propaganda, the leaflet derives its force from documentary authority and political messaging, presenting German readers with the stated aims of Churchill and Roosevelt at a pivotal moment in the war. Exceptionally scarce. WorldCat locates only a single institutional example in the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. Printed on fragile wartime paper with folds, creasing, chips, filing holes and marginal wear consistent with wartime survival. Text remains substantially complete and legible throughout. A rare and historically important piece of Second World War propaganda ephemera with distinguished Churchill provenance. In good condition overall.…

In den WarenkorbFirst edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by the editor on the front free endpaper "To Winston Churchill who formed the 'grand alliance' with FDR. Donald Day. Chappaqua, N.Y., Oct 5, 1951". Churchill's posthumous bookplate, and that of his son Randolph, is on the front pastedown. Using the documents in the recently opened Roosevelt library in Hyde Park, Day charts Roosevelt's career through his public statements and papers from his election to the state senate in New York in 1910 through to his death in 1945. Day (1899-1991) worked at Reader's Digest and published several books on politics, including a similar volume, Woodrow Wilson's Own Story (1952). Below Day's inscription is the pencilled secretarial note "Thanked 30.10.51. PPS Gifts DAY, Donald". The letter of thanks from Churchill's private secretary is preserved in the Churchill Archives, "Mr. Churchill desires me to thank you for so kindly presenting him with a copy of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Own Story which you have compiled. He great looks forward to reading this interesting account and so much appreciates your thought in sending him a copy" (CHUR 2/393A-B). Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Cloth a little dulled, soiled, and rubbed. A very good copy. …
