Hardcover. Zustand: New. The book explores the vital role that communities can play in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring their long-term success. It provides a thorough analysis of progress towards the attainment of SDGs by India as well as at the global level, using the SDG Index developed by Sachs et al. (2018) and the report from NITI Aayog in India. The research reveals a concerning slowdown, halt, or even regression in SDG progress, largely due to crises such as climate change and the COVID-19 Pandemic. The authors introduce the concept of Holistic Sustainability, which encompasses both internal and external dimensions, illustrated through a case study of Dayalbagh - a community that has been practicing sustainable living for over a century. This book provides a fresh way of thinking about the goal of sustainable development. Beyond the necessary environmental, social and economic changes, it argues that a shift in consciousness is necessary for all participants of a committed community in order for sustained change to occur. It offers the example of the success of the Dayalbagh community as proof that this approach is possible. An important contribution to the development literature, this book is worthy of serious consideration by all engaged in this vital goal. Prof. Mark Juergensmeyer, Author of Radhasoami Reality and Gandhi's Way 'Role of Communities in Achieving Sustainable Development' is not just a scholarly treatise; it is a manifesto for a new era of sustainabilityone that recognizes the intrinsic link between inner transformation and external progress. This book is a must-read for policymakers, academics, and activists alike, offering a roadmap towards a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable future for all.
