Fourth American edition, enlarged and improved (first edition London, 1842; first American edition, N. Y., 1843). 8vo. xx, 564 pp. This copy belonged to Mary Day Lanier (with the "Lanier Collection" bookplate of Johns Hopkins on the front pastedown, stamped "withdrawn"); she nursed her husband Sidney Lanier through his long, ultimately lethal bout with consumption. Scattered through-out are news clippings, ephemeral notices, and hand-written notes on remedies. Contemporary black leather (joints and edges rubbed), gilt spine title; one page torn at lower corner, affecting a bit of text, scattered foxing. Very good copy with a nice literary association.

Their fusion of hard rock with psychedelia and penchant for occult, fantastical and tongue-in-cheek lyrics had a major influence on heavy metal music." - Wikipedia. You may recall that their monster hit (Don't Fear) The Reaper lives on in the timeless and hilarious SNL skit "More Cowbell" featuring Christopher Walken. Clean, tight and unmarked with average wear. A sound example of this rare and truly awesome seventies rock memento. ; 4to.
