"In 1900 he became a professor of a…nthropology and ethnology at the University of Breslau, and several years later (1904) was appointed director of the Museum für Völkerkunde Hamburg (Museum of Ethnology, Hamburg), a position he maintained until his retirement in 1935. As museum director, Thilenius coordinated the 1908-1910 Südsee-Expedition, a scientific expedition to German-administered territories in Micronesia and Melanesia. Over 15,000 objects and artifacts from the South Pacific were brought back to Hamburg, which were documented until 1938" (Wikipedia). This well-illustrated part written by Augustin Krämer deals with Palau history stories and chants, as well as the local names of zoological and botanical objects. Uncut. Small damp-stain to the top gutter of the first few leaves, otherwise a very good, clean, unmarked copy.

This well-illustrated part was written by Anneliese Eilers and deals with the ethnography of the smaller islands off Ponape, in the Carolines, namely Kapingamarangi, Nukuor [Nukuoro], Ngatik [Sapwuahfik or Raven islands], Mokil [Mwoakilloa, formerly Duperrey Island and Wellington Island], and Pingelap. Uncut. Light creasing to lower outer corner of the front wrapper and, diminishing, the next few gatherings; otherwise a very good, clean copy.

The full colour frontispiece was published together with the unrelated Volume 8 and is often lacking, but, loosely inserted, present in this set. Uncut. A very good, clean set.
