In the early 1980s I was four years old and my little sister was two. My father – Bruce Stuart - invented SPECIAL WAYS to make putting us to bed easier, and to have us stay in our bedrooms overnight. He recorded each SPECIAL WAY in a journal including drawing little stick figures. He made one up for each week of the year.

Thirty years later I became a mother. When my daughter turned three we started giving her SPECIAL WAYS. She loves them as much as I did, and they really work. She stays in her bedroom! Most of the time.

As a tribute to my late father and to help parents who struggle with bedtimes, I decided to share SPECIAL WAYS. I found a lovely artist - Cath Love - who brought my father’s simple stick drawings to life. Cath used our old family photographs as the basis for her illustrations, which is why there are two little girls; my sister and I. Of course SPECIAL WAYS are suitable for little boys too.
