Born in Center Square near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, life has taken her on a wondrous journey through years as a military wife experiencing vistas that have widened with her travels and vision.
At age 20, she contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome which left her paralyzed for months. While in the emergency room, Shirley had a near-death experience that changed her life.
For 32 years, Shirley followed her husband around the world, moving from one duty station to the next. During her time in Israel, she was the Director of the American Embassy Women’s Group Preschool in Kfar Shmaryahu.
Another move led her to Okinawa, Japan, and Australia where she was President of the British Charity, the Ryder-Cheshire Foundation, in Canberra. While in Canberra, she also organized Women in Healing Arts, bringing together local women recognized for their skills as traditional healers.
Her life altering experience at 20 led her to study and become over many years, a Reiki Master-Teacher. She named her practice Reiki Without Borders and practicing has taken her all over the world.
She lived among the Pitjantjara Aborigines as well as the opal miners of Outback South Australia.
Between 2000-2010, she made numerous trips to East Timor (Timor Leste) volunteering with an American doctor at the Bairo Pite Clinic in Dili. She worked closely with lepers, and those suffering from tropical diseases, tuberculosis, malaria, AIDS and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD.)
She does extensive traveling these days while enjoying the magic on each new path she discovers.
