Holly Patrick has spent over 20 years teaching English at home and abroad, and more than anything else, she is fascinated by different languages and cultures. While she was ultimately unsuccessful at learning Arabic, and made only a half-hearted attempt at Chinese, Holly was able to learn Spanish and has worked as a Spanish teacher for many years, in addition to her work in ESL. Holly has lived in both Latin America and Spain, and along with her experience working with Latino immigrants in the U.S., living abroad herself helped her develop the empathy for those who struggle with the day-to-day challenges of living in a foreign country that lead to the creation of her book. Holly developed the guide while working with international students at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, and was fortunate to receive feedback from the students on its content that went a long way in ensuring that the information was accurate, relevant and highly useful.
