Mark Furness

Mark Furness writes dark comedy crime and thrillers — fast, visual stories with a live wire running through them.

He is the author of the Firefly Electrics Series, where suburban electricians Lennie and Joe fix faults in the justice system after hours, backed by Rawcus — a tough-talking cockatoo with a razor wit and a talent for spotting shifty characters.

Before turning to fiction, Mark worked as a journalist in the US, UK, Australia and East Asia. He learned how stories are shaped, how power operates, and how often the truth gets rewired.

At 21, he survived a hang-gliding crash into high-voltage wires and spent over a year in hospital. The doctors say he recovered. Others question the definition of recovery.

That sensibility runs through his work: back-against-the-wall situations, humour under pressure, and characters who don’t wait for permission.

He lives in Sydney.
