Paul TM Smith has been MD, director, or part of senior management across several of the UK’s largest and most successful care groups for much of the last 30 years while also enjoying a brief sojourn consulting in the NHS (Lancashire Primary care trust) and running his own freelance consulting concern

His portfolio in the independent sector includes: Director of care, quality and operations (NI) Caring and Leading group, Non exec industry expert board member Assembled healthcare, Director of operations Renal Health Ltd, Director of clinical excellence for Aspire Care LPP. Head of dementia care and older peoples mental health HC-One (The UKs largest care provider) Director of dementia Caring homes, Director of dementia care RCH Care Homes. Director of operations and care development and nominated individual for the Prestige Group, Managing Director and nominated individual of MBi Social Care Limited and Qualia Care Limited and eleven years with European Care Group growing as the group did from three homes to being the 5th largest UK provider and culminating in Head of Dementia Developments

He has been majorly involved in high-profile service start up, take over (the rescue of the failed largest UK operator Southern Cross) turn around, rebranding and consolidation and he has worked extensively within crisis resolution and service remodelling. He is an RMN/CPN consultant nurse with 39 years of continuous, revalidated registered practice and a qualified Ericksonian psychotherapist.

He has achieved professional and academic qualifications in psychiatric nursing, community psychiatric nursing, dementia studies, dementia care, nurse education, psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, clinical and indirect hypnosis, project management and is also a master practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming. He is an author, public speaker, and researcher and for many years Paul has been involved in national research and standards-setting. He played a major role in the implementation and ongoing coordination of over 200 care homes within the FITS program (the largest research initiative to reduce the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medications across care homes in partnership with the Dept of health, University of Worcester, HC-One and the Alzheimer's society)

He has high industry recognition and trust and has won numerous awards including the prestigious Govt improving lives award and is best known for his innovative work in dementia and older person’s mental health. He has presented extensively at national conferences and forums and is published internationally

Paul was greatly honoured to be a visiting research fellow (2008 - 2010) at the Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. He is currently a steering panel member of the older peoples forum, Royal College of Nursing Older People and a member of the nurses in leadership forum. He is also an expert forum member for the young dementia network
