C.P. Webster-Scholten

C. P. Webster-Scholten (Penny) is a native Californian, retired geologist, and scientific writer. Graduating in 1958 from Fullerton Union High School, she continued studies at Fullerton Jr. College, Yavapai College, and Northern Arizona University. With AA, BS, and MA degrees she worked in Oklahoma's petroleum industry and California's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where she retired in 1996. Now living in Utah (and traveling the world), she still hikes the Southwest often with her husband, two daughters, and her brother. In October 2017, she'll once again hit the Grand Canyon trails with friends, seeking more adventure at age 77.

She has written a play based on her booklet "Flirting With Danger: Hiking the Grand Canyon the Wrong Way" and hopes to see it produced sometime in the future (with a shorter title). Play writing, a much different genre from scientific writing, has presented new challenges in her pursuit of adventure. From hiking and rafting in Utah and California, to shooting rapids on the Colorado River, to drilling wells in the San Joaquin Valley, to reading books on diverse and exciting topics, she also fulfills speaking engagements in Utah and Nevada, describing and dramatically portraying the adventures that she pursues along with her family and friends.
