He is widely recognized for his contributions during the "Golden Age" of Chinese animation. Havoc in Heaven (大鬧天宮, 1961-1964): Pu served as a principal animation designer for this masterpiece of Chinese cinema, adapted from Journey to the West. He notably integrated traditional Peking opera martial arts movements (specifically the wusheng role) to animate the complex battle choreography of the character Erlang Shen. Pu Jiaxiang's artistry is characterized by a "national style" (minzu hua), bridging classical Chinese art with contemporary animation mechanics.
