D. Manning Richards

David Manning Richards is currently living in Sydney, Australia, to promote his historical novel DESTINY IN SYDNEY while he completes the sequel A GIFT OF SYDNEY to be published by Aries Books on December 1, 2013. An American, he and his wife Judy reside in the Washington, D.C., area.

After earning degrees in Landscape Architecture and City Planning, he traveled around the world studying cities and worked professionally in Sydney, Australia, from 1973 to 1975. Returning to Washington, he worked as a city planner for The National Capital Planning Commission, as the vice-president of an office building developer, and then as a principal of Richards Development Company. But it was his interests in cities, history, and the writing of short stories and poetry that drew him back to Sydney to attend the 2000 Summer Olympics and to begin researching the history of Sydney. In 2003, he returned to Washington to write an epic family saga covering 213 years of the city’s history, from 1788 to 2000, about convicts, Aborigines, and Chinese. DESTINY IN SYDNEY begins in England in 1787 and ends in 1902 with federation and women’s suffrage. A GIFT OF SYDNEY continues the multicultural family saga from 1903 and ends with the Summer Olympics in the year 2000.
