It is a question of recognizing in them, in fact, the expression of the full awareness of emigration and the definition of ethnic identity in the encounter of different cultures, in the contribution to different national literatures; without commemorative intentions, therefore, but in order to draw attention to a phenomenon that is literally global in scope and importance. This volume is a significant step in this direction: each of the numerous examples of culture, civil liberty and emancipation (even from linguistic subordination itself), as well as of literary value, offered by Italian writers around the world indicates an original research path identity and autonomy, and proves that Italian literature is not only that which is included within national borders. In the first part, a critical assessment of the forms and genres of the emigration literature is outlined; the second examines the works - divided by geographical areas and according to chronological and thematic affinities - by numerous Italian emigrant writers, from the last century to the present day.
