Archana Verma

"Saindhavi" is the pen name of Dr. Archana Verma, an Art Historian of South Asia. She has published three books in her name as Archana Verma viz., Cultural and Visual Flux in Early Historical Bagh, Archaeopress, UK (2007), Performance and Culture - Narrative, Image and Enactment in India, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, UK (2011) and Temple Imagery in Early Mediaeval Peninsular India, Ashgate Publishers, UK (Forthcoming in 2012).

At present, Saindhavi Archana Verma is preparing e-books on the History of South Asian Arts, a Multi-Volume work which will be useful for the undergraduate students of South Asian Arts.

Archana Verma may also use Saindhavi Verma as her author name. Archana uses the pen name "Saindhavi."

On Saindhavi, Archana Verma's pen name -

It is a musical mode in the South Indian classical music system. It means "belonging to the Indus Valley." Thus, a musical mode that came from the Indus region is Saindhavi.

Etymologically, Saindhavi can mean a woman from the Indus region or a woman from the sea-shore. By extension, Saindhavi can also mean an Indian woman, since the term India itself is derived from Indus.

Archana Verma works on the art and culture of South Asia, hence she uses this pen name "Saindhavi," which is the name of a musical mode in Indian classical music.
