They felt this understanding was the best preparation to following future developments in psychological knowledge and to understand the changes in how that knowledge was applied. Nel 1934 si iscrisse all'Università di Chicago, dove studiò con Karl Lashey, seguendolo nel 1936 ad Harvard, dove nello stesso anno conseguì il dottorato. Fra il 1937 e il 1939 lavorò al Neurological Institute di Montreal assieme a Wilder G. Penfield sugli effetti delle lesioni cerebrali nell'uomo. Dal 1939 al 1942 insegnò presso la Queens University di Ontario, trasferendosi successivamente a Orange Park, in Florida, dove lavorò nuovamente con Lashley, che nel frattempo era divenuto direttore degli Yerkes Laboratories of Primate Biology. Nel 1949 pubblicò The Organization of Behavior. A Neuro-Psychological Theory, opera che ebbe una grande influenza sia sulla psicologia che sulla neurofisiologia degli anni '50 e '60. PENSIERO Il principale contributo offerto da Donald Hebb alla conoscenza dei fenomeni nervosi riguarda i processi associativi che si verificano tra due o più neuroni. In breve, Hebb teorizzò che se un neurone è stimolato da altri neuroni e se nello stesso tempo esso è attivo, allora la forza della connessione tra il primo neurone e gli altri viene accresciuta.
