John Tarttelin

John Tarttelin was born in 1955 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England. He studied history and education at Sheffield City College of Education (1973-1977)where he also developed a love for the philosophy of Nietzsche. He wrote a thesis on Frederick the Great of Prussia and did a fourth year B.Ed. course with Sheffield University. He wrote his dissertation on Thomas Wentworth the First Earl of Strafford. John now lives in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire, only a few miles from Wentworth, where Thomas was born.

John has had articles and stories published in a variety of magazines as well as writing some 20 articles for the INS in Montreal (The International Napoleonic Society). In December 2010 he received the Society's Legion of Merit. He was personally asked to be a member by its founder Ben Weider. Ben passed away in late 2008 and is sorely missed by its membership. John has written a Napoleonic article for a new French magazine which is due to be published in September 2011. His work has also been translated into Spanish for the Mexico City branch of the INS.
