Light stain to outer margin of pages 137 to 146, text is otherwise clean throughout. Lower corner of first two pages have been reinforced with a small piece of archival tape to verso. Printing flaw to lower corner of p93/94 (Preston North End) has resulted in some loss of text. Complete with the frontis team photo of Aston Villa, League Champions 1895-1896. Numerous woodcut portraits (of players and team management) within the text. An important and notoriously fragile football title. Includes early histories of 16 clubs: Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Bury, Derby County, Everton, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Stoke, Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Original green cloth sunned on the spine and extremities; covers slightly rubbed and marked; top edge darkened; flyleaves offset; a very good copy. With the ownership signature of Ernest H.M. Baillie, the sportswriter 'BAIL', who possessed an exceptional cricket library (see the MCG website). Includes Australia v England, 1893-1909. Also with the stamps (pocket, card and cancellation datestamp) of the Melbourne Cricket Club library. Catton also writes of the early days of Association Football (ie, soccer), and of Preston North End and Nottingham.
