Wraps. Zustand: Very good. Format is approximately 8.25 inches by 11 inches. [4], 70, [6] pages, plus covers. Illustrations. Maps. Armament List. Equipment. Appendix. Supplement. Signed by the author on the title page. Original copyright was in 1980. It may come as a surprise to many that some tramways of the United States have evaded documentation. One of the least known electric systems outside the continental United States was also the west-most tramway in the Philippines. On the small island of Corregidor at the entrance of Manila Bay was located a strategic defence post of the U.S. Forces, known as 'Fort Mills'. In 1907, the US Congress authorized the construction of a tramway to service the island batteries with foodstuffs and munitions, and to provide a means of internal communication. The tramway linked the north and south docks with the various batteries on high ground facing westwards to the open sea, and most of the system was opened in 1910. Traces the history of the U.S. Army's Corregidor and Manila Bay Railroads. Includes over 70 maps, drawings and photos which illustrate the construction, operation and destruction of these narrow gauge lines that served America's Far East Gibraltar. Presumed First Railroad Monographs edition, first printing.
