Richard Crasta

Richard Crasta is the Indian-born author of 12 books, including the critically acclaimed novel "The Revised Kama Sutra," which has been published ten countries and seven languages. (It was published in German by Deuticke Verlag, Vienna, under the title of "Die Kinder des Kamasutra," and under the pen name, Avatar Prabhu.)

"The Revised Kama Sutra" tells the uncensored story of an Indian boy's growing up in a sexually repressed Indian society, to which, in his case, is added the additional burden of Catholic repression ... and the attractions of freedom that he finds in Western literature and the American Dream--a phenomenon that is now universal, representing the miscegenation between Eastern and Western cultures. In this novel and in other works, Crasta, influenced by Freud's theories of repression and by Western ideas of free expression, liberally expresses the Indian and universal male's thoughts and feelings.

Since then, there have been many other nonconformist, sometimes anti-Establishment books, including "Impressing the Whites: The New International Slavery," and "The Killing of an Author."

The principles that guide his writing are authenticity, integrity, courage, humor, humility, and an unwillingness, as far as possible, to compromise.

Crasta has lived for most of his adult life in the New York area, but has been spending much of his time, in the last few years, in Asia. His travels in Germany have included many trips to the Frankfurt Book Fair, and a single trip each to Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and Heidelberg.
