Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Untold Story: The Life of Isadora Duncan, 1921-1927' provides a poignant and intimate look at the final years of the woman widely regarded as the mother of modern dance. Written by Mary Desti, one of Duncan's closest confidantes and lifelong friends, this biographical account delves into… the legendary dancer's tumultuous experiences during her later life. The narrative follows Duncan through her travels in post-revolutionary Russia, her intense and tragic marriage to the poet Sergei Yesenin, and her eventual return to Western Europe. Desti offers an insider's perspective on the financial struggles, personal tragedies, and artistic triumphs that defined Duncan's twilight years. Readers are granted a rare glimpse into the dancer's visionary spirit and her unwavering commitment to her craft despite mounting personal challenges. The work serves as both a historical document and a deeply personal tribute, capturing the vibrant yet often misunderstood personality of an iconoclastic artist. Ending with the circumstances surrounding her untimely death in Nice, this chronicle remains a vital resource for understanding the legacy of a woman who revolutionized the performing arts. It is a compelling exploration of genius, resilience, and the complexities of a life lived entirely on one's own terms. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Hard Cover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. First Edition Thus. 1. Second printing before publication (February 1929). Publisher's full gray blocked cloth, gilt and black lettering and decoration on spine and cover, top edge black. Illustrated with 24 photographs, facsimilies and reproductions. Mary Desti…Dempsey (1871-1931) left Chicago for Paris in 1901 with her then year-old son, Preston Sturges. In Paris, she met and formed a life-long friendship with dancer and choreographer Isadora Duncan. Desti (who adopted this name because it sounded like d'Este) undertook various enterprises in Europe, including a cosmetic business. She frequently accompanied Duncan in her travels, and occasionally Duncan lived with her. Duncan was staying with Desti in Nice at the time of her sudden death in an automobile accident on September 14, 1927. Following Duncan's death, Desti, a casual writer of both fiction and non-fiction, wrote a Duncan biography, The Untold Story: The Life of Isadora Duncan (New York: Liveright, 1929). Isadora Duncan's autobiography My Life (New York: Liveright, 1927) recorded events through 1921, prior to the period when she opened a dance school in Moscow. Desti intended to tell the rest of the story. . Spine very lightly sunned, unmarked, tight, square and clean. The unclipped dust jacket, now in Mylar, is chipped and worn at the edges, with some loss at the heel. VERY GOOD/FAIR. . Photographs. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. 281 pp.

Scarce first 1998 Weiser edition. Includes Crowley's "extensive technical commentary. published here with new material taken from the original manuscript notebooks of the working, the original typescript of its commentary, and annotated copies of its first edition in The Equinox I(5) (1911). Many notes and illustrations have not… appeared in print before" (ix). Paper wraps with publisher's plastic reinforcement. Minimal detachment of plastc reinforcement at edges; bump to foot of spine (see images). This is otherwise a very handsome as new copy with no names, inscriptions or further defacements.
