Srichander Ramaswamy grew up in Chennai and holds a doctorate in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. In the early part of his career he worked on the design of flight control laws for fighter planes. The switch to the banking business brought him in close contact with traders, risk managers and central bankers. During his career at the Bank for International Settlements between 1996-2013 he has worked with various committees hosted by the BIS including the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision as well as with the Financial Stability Board. His publications on the run on money market mutual funds during the financial crisis and the systemic risks posed by exchange traded funds that replicate benchmarks synthetically are widely referred to and the latter has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and the Economist.
