Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Immediate dispatch from Somerset. Nice book in great condition. Pages in excellent condition. Images are beautiful bright and vivid. No notes or highlighting. See images. Fantastic book. About the book >.>.> One must view the striking and distinctive creative efforts of Costa Rica's early ceramic a…rtists with admiration as one projects their achievements against the backdrop of a culture with no alpha- bet, with limited technology and no extant monu- mental architecture. Despite the designation of Costa Rica as the "rich coast" by Spanish explorers who were impressed by the gold adornments of its people, the area would appear to have been poor in terms of the materials, technology and oppor- tunities essential for the development of impor- tant stone architecture or a wide range of aesthetic creations in stone and metal. "But the Indians of Pre-Columbian Costa Rica.enjoved the advantages even as they suf- fered the vicissitudes of living at the juncture between cultures and the transit point for com- merce. The Costa Rican isthmus, linking North and South America, was exposed to civilizations more sophisticated than its own, utilizing more advanced technologies manifes.

[2] pp.; 10.6 x 13.9 cm.; black-and-white; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; photocopy / xeroxed Two sided postcard / announcement published in conjunction with show held December 4, 1991 - January, 1992. Curated by Kenny Schachter. "One of his earliest exhibitions, ''''''''Unlearning,'''''''' sought precisely to tu…rn the prevailing construct upside down. Invading a former plush Greene Street gallery, Schachter took down the velvet ropes that had kept visitors from the storerooms and offices. Art went everywhere: Rachel Harrison presented a collection of used tampons in the pristine print drawers. Schachter sold sandwiches, had a row of bus seats installed and kept the doors open seven days a week. He also showed his own work, perhaps the supreme faux pas of the gallery world." -- from "The Do-It-Yourself Dealers," by Ellen Pall in The New York Times , September 1, 1996.
