In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Very Good. Britain has a rich and spectacular history. It is a core country in the development of the modern world. Indeed, as the first industrial nation, there is a strong case that Britain is its primary cause, and it certainly isnt easy to imagine our 21st century lives without its positive influence and the moments of genius from its people; examples of which are all around us. Its intellectual achievements are exceptional, spanning more than a thousand years and comprising a fusion of people, systems, ideas, inventions, innovations, theories and explorations that are still utilised across the globe today, shaping the world in which we live and breathe on a daily basis. This book provides a universal view of British historys positive impact on the modern world, and does so, rather uniquely, through tangible examples including scientific endeavour, artistic style, musical talents, author creativity and inventors curiosity, all of which have significantly shaped and benefitted the modern world. While history is broad and complex, the author simplifies and shortens each account into a deliberately concise overview of a historical development that can be easily digested and used as a springboard for further reading. British ingenuity is widely diffused across so many different fields, from entertainment, sport, literature and gastronomy through to philosophy, engineering, medicine and science. This book gives one hundred and one examples of it. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

They were just what she needed for her own garden, and she asked her host what they were. "Those are Nellie Stevens hollies," was the reply. She looked again and couldn't help but wonder about the name. Who in the world is Nellie Stevens, and how did her name ever become associated with this plant? She noted other intriguing names, and she asked similar questions. She saw a beautifulblue clematis and wondered if Betty Corning was still alive and what stories she had to tell. She wondered about the places and people whose names are associated with so many popular garden plants. She is not alone. If necessity is the mother of invention, curiosity is the mother of research. In many cases, we wonder not what our gardens grow, but who our gardens grow. Until now, these accounts have not been compiled and unfortunately, many of the people are disappearing, their stories with them. Now gardeners can enjoy the beauty of their plants and delight in the tales they tell." ; Contents: Anna, Illinois -- Arnold Arboretum -- Janes Bath -- Lole Benedict -- ray Bracken -- Luther Burbank -- Molly Bush -- Cedar lane Farm -- John Champneys, Phillippe Noisette -- Corbett, maryland -- Betty Corning -- John Creech -- Roy Davidson -- Vince and Barbara Dooley -- Eco-Gardens -- Katie Ferguson -- Henry and Sally Fuller -- Fred Galle -- Gardenview Horticultural park -- Azilda Gerbing -- Goodness Grows -- Kim Hawks -- mary Gibson Henry -- Poly Hill -- Andre Iseli -- Tina James -- Joseph Kassab -- Hella Lacy -- Michael Lindsey -- Carol Mackie -- Frank N Meyer -- Montrose Nursery -- David Mooberry -- Mt. Zustand: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Relying on a multidisciplinary framework of inquiry and critical perspective, this edited volume addresses the unique experiences of Black males within various stages of contact in the criminal justice system. It provides a comprehensive overview of the administration of justice, mental and physical health issues faced by Black males, and reintegration into society after system involvement.Recent events-including but by no means limited to the shootings of unarmed Black men by police in Ferguson, Missouri; Baltimore; Minneapolis; and Chicago-have highlighted the disproportionate likelihood of young Black males to encounter the criminal justice system. Black Males and the Criminal Justice System provides a theoretical and empirical review of the need for an intersectional understanding of Black male experiences and outcomes within the criminal justice system. The intersectional approach, which posits that outcomes of societal experiences are determined by the way the interconnected identities of individuals are perceived and responded to by others, is key to recognizing the various forms of oppression that Black males experience, and the impact these experiences have on them and their families. This book is intended for students and scholars in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, race/ethnic studies, legal studies, psychology, and African American Studies, and will serve as a reference for researchers who wish to utilize a progressive theoretical approach to study social control, policing, and the criminal justice system.

The volumes contained in this complete set are: I A - Roman Britain; I B - The English Settlements; II - Anglo-Saxon England; III - From Domesday to Magna Carta; IV - The Thirteenth Century; V - The Fourteenth Century; VI - The Fifteenth Century; VII - The Earlier Tudors; VIII - The Reign of Elizabeth; IX - The Early Stuarts; X - The Later Stuarts; XI - The Whig Supremacy; XII - The Reign of George III; XIII - The Age of Reform; XIV - England, 1870-1914; XV - English History, 1914-1945; The Consolidated Index.
