Prins Eugen, the youngest son of King Oscar II, was one of SwedenÆs finest landscape painters. This catalogue from an exhibit of his works at the Norwegian National Gallery in 1988 includes five excellent articles by experts on the subject. EugenÆs landscape paintings reflect the moods prevalent around him in Nordic art, but have a restrained intensity that can perhaps be traced to his unique life situation and the burden of living out the life of an artist while maintaining the office and role of Prince. An unquestionably important figure on the Scandinavian firmament. , Norwegian, Year1988, Illust. B/W47, Illust. Color25, ISBN 8290744072, Code 3154. Frits Thaulow and Erik Werenskiold were Norwegian turn of the century painters. Frits Thaulow was an impressionist painter who is known for his beautiful landscapes and his realistic painting of water. Thaulow was a key figure in Nordic painting around 1880, and a personal friend of Monet. Erik Werenkiold was inspired by French nature and the naturalist movement. He painted peasants and landscapes, portraits of celebrities, and illustrations for Norwegian fairy tales.
