The hiking region "Around the Zugspitze" is undoubtedly considered to be one of the most diversified regions of the Alps. It is characterized by quaint villages amid lush meadow valleys, large light-grey limestone mountains, some of which extend over kilometres of jagged ridges and by its numerous magnificent lakes. Another scenic characteristic are the many mountain torrents which discharge into deeply buried valleys of the Loisach-Valley - Höllentalklamm, Partnachklamm and the Kuhflucht Waterfalls are all vivid examples. All of these beauties of nature but also the famous mountain peaks such as Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze (2962 m) or the Ettaler Manndl (1605 m) are made accessible in this guide through the presentation of light and family oriented hiking routes. A total of 50 hiking tours covering the easterly region of the Ammergauer Alps, the Wetterstein, the Mieminger Mountain Range and the westerly portion of Karwendel and the Ester Mountains are introduced to the reader - in other words those mountains around Oberammergau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald. Of course Dieter Seibert, an outstanding expert of this region, makes references to swimming opportunities and to places of interest within the text. Ample variety to choose from to make it more than just a vacation place. A description of the tours, small colour print hiking maps in a scale 1:50.000 with drawn in hiking routes, a summarized yet thorough description of the routes to each of the 50 recommended tours as well as a general map not only make planning the excursions easier for the hiker but also their realization.
