The Year of Living Metaphorically chronicles author Blake Hiemstra's attempt to write six hundred words every day about the world he inhabits. Part comic, part sarcastic, part devotional, the book features his ramblings and reflections on such varied topics as the noble but hair-pulling-out challenge of raising a young family with four kids under the age of seven, the challenge as a man of God to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and the enlightened quest to teach the frantic conglomerations of human hormones known as middle schoolers.

Blake A. Hiemstra is a seasoned middle school English teacher and a devoted husband and father. He lives with his wife and four children in Visalia, California. The Year of Living Metaphorically is his first book.
