As a teenager, he wrote songs while driving a tractor on his father's farm in Indiana. In 1995, after receiving his degree in music education, Rich moved to a reservation near Window Rock, Arizona, to teach music to Navajo children. Rich Mullins died in a car accident September 19, 1997.
